Welcome Back!  We are happy and excited to start the 24-25 school year.  Teachers have been working hard to prepare their classrooms for students.  We have several new faces in the building, and several people have also changed roles this year.   Please be slow, safe, and patient when dropping off and picking up students in our traffic circle and parking lots, as this is a potentially dangerous place and time for our students. Safety first and foremost. Thank you for your cooperation. Let's enjoy the school year.

Respectfully,

Mr. Brian Singley, Principal

Mr. James Wilson, Assistant Principal

Important & Upcoming Dates for August

August 12th- First Day of School

September 2nd- No School

From the Assistant Principal’s Chair:

LET THEM SEE YOU DO IT.

For August I would like to point out two important numbers, both of which come from the latest version of the National Assessment for Educational Progress (NAEP) which is also referred to as the Nation's Report Card.

  1. 33% of all 4th graders nationally read at a proficient level (2022 NAEP).

  2. 35% of all 4th graders nationally were proficient in math (2022 NAEP).

While we are doing everything we can at Beaver Valley to make sure our students are not part of the negative numbers associated with the NAEP, there are some things at home that you can do that will greatly impact your child’s education.  Simply put, LET THEM SEE YOU DO IT.

Children who see their parents place an importance on their own reading and the use of math are more compelled to place an importance on it in their lives as well. So, LET THEM SEE YOU DO IT. Explain what it means to you. Have them do it with you, and help them with what they don’t understand. I am not saying do their homework with them.  Yes, that helps too, but the real-world examples you could provide in your everyday life by simply LETTING THEM SEE YOU DO IT is actually extremely powerful for students.

Over the last 27 years as an educator, I have repeatedly been asked the question “How does this apply to my life when I become an adult?” The reality is that I can give a long list of ways it applies, but the most powerful response has been talking about what their parents/guardians do.  Most kids who ask this question do not see real-life examples at home. So please,

LET THEM SEE YOU DO IT.
